|The Cardinal Ritter Raiders began the 2013-2014 Campaign on the right foot, surpassing the Pumas of Indianapolis Metropolitan High School Wednesday night 76-72.Daniel Fesenmeier and D.J. Alford led the way for the Raiders, each scoring 16 points. On the other side of the ball, De’Andre Huskie led the Pumas with 31 points.
Cardinal Ritter seemed poised after a slow start in the first quarter, with Stevie Fon running the point, and tallying 5 assists and forcing 5 turnovers throughout the game. Cardinal Ritter was also anchored by Nick Jones, turning in a double-double with 14 rebounds (9 offensive) and 11 points.
To provide a spark in the third quarter, Robert Owens came off the bench and went on a run by himself, scoring 10 points in the quarter alone, 12 total. The Raiders built the lead up to double digits, but the Pumas cut it close towards the end of the fourth quarter. Fon sealed the game with 4 seconds remaining, hitting one out of two free throws to make it a 2 possession game.
As a note, Andrew Slevin and Logan Joiner both drew offensive fouls.
Looking forward, the Raiders take on the Crispus Attucks’ Tigers this Friday in a key sectional match-up. The junior varsity game is set to start at 6:00pm, while the varsity will battle at 7:30pm.
