In the second round of the Indianapolis City Tournament, the Cardinal Ritter Raiders battled the Cathedral Irish and pulled the upset, 57-52.The Raiders came out the locker room energized and ready to take on the Irish, pulling away to a 15-6 lead, behind some key long balls from the trio of Downard, Miller and Okafor. On the other side of the ball, the defense put a strangle hold on the game and only gave up a half-dozen points in the quarter.Cardinal Ritter controlled the pace of the game, but only tallied 10 points in the quarter. The Raiders hot shooting fell off a little, but kept forcing turnovers and controlling the Cathedral scoring attack.At the end of the half, the Raiders made up their minds to continue to push the gas pedal, and Okafor stepped up for the away team scoring 11 points in the quarter alone and pulling down some tough rebounds. The black and red lead continued to grow throughout the quarter.
Cathedral had one last push in the fourth quarter, and pulled the game to 4 points. However, Brown’s layup and Majors and Alford’s 4 free throws won the game for the Raiders, 57-52.
Looking forward, the Raiders will play again today at Arlington versus Scecina with a chance to advance to the City Tournament Finals on Monday. |
