The Cardinal Ritter Boys’ Varsity soccer team beat rival Speedway High School, 4-1 Thursday night. After a lightning and thunder show that threatened to delay the start of the game, the Raiders created a little lightning and thunder of its own. With the support of the Ritter community including the raucous Football team, the Raiders scored at the 20 minute mark on a goal by Junior, Carlos Caballero on an assist by Junior, Keith Owen. Lightning struck two minutes later when Nico Ferri scored a goal in the back of the net on the assist by Senior, Danny Legge. They followed with a third goal at the 29 minute mark when Senior, Gunter Dalton put back a shot by Senior, Brendon Clark. After Speedway scored a goal ten minutes into the second half, the Raiders were able to put the game away on a cross by Danny Legge to Junior, Evan Espinoza. The defense completed a strong effort with Senior, Jose Carlos, stopping five shots.
The Junior Varsity followed with a win of their own, beating the Speedway JV 3 – 0 in a scheduled 35 minute game. Gus Esterline opened the scoring off a nice assist by Eli Esterline. Brian Eisele then scored with Charlie Magan providing the assist. Finally Gus scored again. The defense and Matthew Walters recorded another shutout. The JV team is back in action tomorrow at Danville.
