Multiple Teams · Varsity Baseball Wins Sectional Championship

For the fourth straight year the varsity baseball team has won an IHSAA sectional championship. The Raiders defeated Scecina in the morning game in extra innings by a score of 8-7 and then defeated Speedway by a score of 3-2 in the evening game with some late game heroics by Alex Vela who slid into first with two outs to just beat the throw and allowed Jake Kluemper to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Blake Malatestinic pitched marvelously throughout the day.  He came in in game 1 with a sore back and earned the win against Scecina, then pitched a complete game against Speedway.  He was dominant most of the day with one real hiccup during the day.  Overall, he had all 3 wins during the Sectional tournament.  He finished the game with 7 strikeouts giving up 2 runs on 5 scattered hits with an efficient 89 pitches. Vela went 2-4 on the day with an RBI and a stolen base, Seiner had a base hit and an RBI, Dillon Olejnik hit a double and Hamann had a base hit.

The Raiders will play this coming Saturday at Park Tudor in the second game of the regional. They will face #2 ranked Rockville at approximately 1:00 pm. The winner of this game will play the game one winner of Heritage Christian and defending regional champion Knightstown at 8:00 pm. Come out and support the Raiders as they continue their great season.
