The Cardinal Ritter wrestling team competed in the Indiana Crossroads Conference tournament on Saturday 14, 2017 at Beech Grove High School. After coming off a team win on Wednesday 11, 2017 the Raiders wanted to keep the momentum going. The leader of the pack for the tournament was Javon Rodgers placing second in Conference. Rodgers had a very impressive semi-final match winning the match 12-2, then ended up pinning his opponent, beating the heavyweight from Lutheran High School. Going into the finals, Rodgers had his mind set on a Conference Championship but fell just short with a second place finish.
Rodgers was not the only one up on the podium. Senior Bryan Richardson placed 3rd and first year wrestler, Derek Gomez placed 4th. Richardson had a very tough match in the semi-finals but fall just short of Scecina’s 152 pounder. Richardson did not let that discourage him at all as he came back and wrestled hard to get his 3rd place finish.
Gomez went into the semi-finals with a worthy opponent and battled hard but fell to Scecina’s 195 pounder. Gomez went into his final match of the day battling and leaving everything on the mat against the home team Beech Grove’s 195 but came up short on points taking it the whole 3 periods.
The Raiders also want to congratulate Mitchell Wilson and Parker Mead who fought very hard in the tournament. Each of the guys had tough weight class but they didn’t let that get to them. They went out and wrestled hard. Congratulations to the Cardinal Ritter Wrestling Team!!!
