It has been an early Spring so far this year and college baseball has begun around the country. Cardinal Ritter boasts 3 players who have started this past weekend or start the upcoming weekend in their respective season. Logan Beaman (Eastern Illinois D1) and Kyle Matter (St. Joseph’s Rensellear) began this past weekend as Tommy Waites begins his season this upcoming Saturday for the Franklin College Grizzlies.
Beaman transferred this year after a short successful career at Oakton Community College where he earned pitcher of the year honors. Beaman and Eastern Illinois began the season in a rained filled weekend in Southern Alabama and travel to Central Arkansas Friday to begin their winning ways. Matter and the Pumas began the season 4-0 by beating Quincy, Kentucky Wesleyan and Tiffin University twice. Matter pitched one game facing 7 batters, striking out 1 and earning a save in the process. You can follow Matter’s season at http://athletics.saintjoe.edu/index.aspx?path=baseball .
Waites and the Grizzlies begin this weekend at the RussMatt Invitational. Their first game is Saturday vs. Otterbein at 2:30. They follow that up by playing Waynesburg, Alma and Saint Mary’s (Minn).
