The Cardinal Ritter baseball team traveled to Alexandria on Monday night to take on the Tigers and came away with a 13-3 win. It was a cold and windy day after a long ride, but the Raiders came out hot out of the gates scoring one in the first and never looking back. Alex “The Sticky Bandit” Vela scored the first run by stealing home, showing why he earned his nickname.
Blake “Hot Mustard” Malatestinic earned the win throwing 4 out of the games 5 innings giving up no earned runs, striking out six, and walking 2 all while only giving up 3 hits. The win pushed Malatestinic’s overall record to 5-0 for the season. He pitched well working on his assortment of off-speed pitches and had help from an amazing defense early in the game led by Vela at short. Sophomore Damien Wallace came in to finish the game in his first outing of the season at the varsity level and struck out 2 with his knee buckling curve ball.
The Raiders offense was outstanding hitting safely 13 times and walking 6. Leading the offense was Dillon “Rube” Olejnik who looks to have broken out of his short slump going 2-2 on the day with 2 doubles to the center field wall and 2 RBI. Vela stayed hot at the plate going 2-3 with 2 RBI. Jake “The Snake” Kluemper went 2-3 with 4 RBI out of the clean-up spot. Malatestinic went 2-3 at the plate with a double and 2 RBI. Luke “The Laser” Shearer also went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI, Kyle “Kay Pee-Zee” Price went 1-1 and walking twice and Autry “Galloping” Gaynor had a hit on the day. Brian “Nails” Bacon also looked like his vintage self slapping a base hit to the left side of the field.
This win brings the team to 12-1 on the year while polling at #4 on the IHSBCA report and #2 in 2A on Maxpreps.
