The 2017-18 season began yesterday for Cardinal Ritter Athletics kicked off by the annual Athlete’s Mass in the morning. Raiders student-athletes from all sports came to join to celebrate the opening day of practices and games for high school athletes around the state.
At the beginning of mass each team had a player offer something specific to their sport and placed it under the altar. St. Michael’s was abuzz while the Raiders prayed and gave thanks to our Lord for the physical gifts and opportunities they have been given. After the service Mrs. Hoy spoke to our student-athletes and recognized the band for their tireless work over the summer. Mr. Pelych, the new Cardinal Ritter principal, was then introduced and spoke about the importance of athletics.
After mass practices begun with the Football Team taking the field. The Cheer leading Team began shortly after as the Girls Golf Team left for their first match of the year (more details coming). The Girls Volleyball Team took the court after cheer and the Girls Soccer Team took the field in the evening. All other fall sports will begin Tuesday as the excitement of the new year and its possibilities are at a high.
