Girls Junior Varsity Golf, Girls Varsity Golf · Girls Golf In Ben Davis Invitational

Last week the Cardinal Ritter Girls Golf Team accepted a challenge to break a score of 400 for 18 holes before the end of the season. The ladies had been improving their scores every match, so they felt that breaking 400 was a reasonable goal. Little did Coach Jones know how seriously they were taking that challenge. Saturday they played in the Ben Davis Invitational at South Grove Golf Course, and fired a 398!!  Afterwards the girls decided Coach Jones owed them 20 push-ups for beating the goal the very first chance they had. So he obliged, but only gave them 10 there at South Grove in front of all the other teams. They will cash in on the other 10 at practice on Monday. At his old age, he needs to pace himself!

Leading the scoring effort Saturday with her personal best was Lizzie Knight with a 91, followed by another personal best of 99 by Annie Melton. Madison Hurrle shot her best of this season with a 102, and Haley Sullivan had her personal best with a 106 after running in the cross country meet that morning. Rounding out the scoring with her best round of the season was Frankie Viglietta with a 108. Great job, ladies!!

In a field of nineteen schools represented in Saturday’s Invitational, the score of 398 was good enough for fourteenth place, beating out the teams from Lawrence Central and Franklin Central, plus Warren Central, Pike, and Speedway who did not have complete teams.
This was an outstanding performance by these young ladies, especially since this is the course where they play Sectionals in September. Keep that trend going ladies. Now let’s set a new goal of breaking 390! I know you can break that one this season, too!

The Lady Raiders are back at the links Tuesday.
