The Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams competed in the City Championship on a crisp Saturday morning at Graham Park. The Boys Team ran well beating rival Scecina, while the Girls Team won the 2nd Place Trophy marking the highest a Cardinal Ritter XC team has ever placed in the City Tourney.
The Lady Raiders success was led by sophomore standout Mary Anna Wehrle who won the City Championship outright with one of the fastest times ever recorded at this specific race. Mariah Wehrle was close behind her while Jenna Gruber placed 8th. Freshman Hannah Wells narrowly missed the podium placing 12th overall while Annie Waters was key in the 2nd place finish coming in at 21st.
The Raiders Boys Team was led by Connor “Strides” Schepers who placed 14th and was aided by Peter Sperry, Scott Roggeman and Mitchell Jacobs who ran in a pack. All three of the boys encouraged each other even when it was getting tough to push through for the team with Jacobs leading them through the finish line. Julious Johnican ran well destroying his PR and Ben Jordan ran his fast race in 2 years. Freshman Ethan Lettich ran his first race of the season after battling injury coming away with a 6th place finish in the Freshman Race.
Coach Ford stated after, “The stars of the meet… for the girls was Hannah Wells… demolished her PR. For the boys… Freshman All-City runner, Ethan Lettich (who)… earned a spot on the Sectional Pool of 12 boys.”
