The Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams ran in the Indiana Crossroads Conference Championship on Wednesday. The Boys Team had a tough day placing 4th overall, but the Girls Team won the ICC Championship. This marks the second ICC title in as many years for the Lady Raiders.
Leading the way for the Girls Team was Mary Anna Wehrle who won the race followed closely by her sister Mariah Wehrle. This was the second year in a row Mary Anna Whehrle took home the first place prize. They were not the only two that made it on the podium from Cardinal Ritter as Jenna Gruber placed 5th and Hannah Wells placed 6th. This gives all 4 girls ICC All-Conference honors. Grace Smith had a gutsy performance coming in as the 5th runner for the Lady Raiders while tying her season best time. Jessica Bontempo also ran well tying her PR.
The Boys Team was led by Mitchell Jacob who placed 11th overall, narrowly missing the podium. Peter Sperry had a great performance as well following behind Jacob. Seniors Nathan Marks, Ashley Metangmo and Solomon Aaron each ran his last race of the season which marks the end of some very successful Cardinal Ritter careers. “They ran very well,” said Coach Ford, “with Ashley getting an SB, Nathan never giving up… and Solomon, despite not running in weeks, was the only CR runner, girls or boys, to have a negative split, going out in style. I will miss you boys.”
