It was a rainy day for Cardinal Ritter Soccer fans as the Lady Raiders lost to the Covenant Christian Warriors 2-1. The Lady Raiders hosted the Lady Warriors for the Sectional Championship on Saturday night under the lights to a packed house. The intensity was high, but the Warriors came out hot against the Raiders scoring two quick goals to start the game. Covenant kept the pressure on and did not give up a goal in the first half leaving a score of 2-0.
The Raiders composed themselves at halftime and started to fight back, with Tia Brown scoring a goal at the beginning of the half to bring the Raiders within one. The rain began pouring down and Cardinal Ritter fought their hardest. As the field got slick, the Lady Raiders tried to find more opportunities and shots at tying the game, but couldn’t find a way to execute.
The final score was 2-1 with Covenant taking the Sectional crown.
The Lady Raiders have nothing to be ashamed of this season as they finished up 10-5-3 allowing only 11 goals all year and shutting out opponents in 10 games. Coach Duncan spoke of the team stating, “(We) have nothing to hang our head’s about… I saw a team I have never seen before. Every single person poured their heart onto that field… (The team) has left a mark on this program in ways (they) will never know, it has changed what Cardinal Ritter Girls Soccer is forever… I have never been prouder to wear the CR logo than right now.”
Great job to all the seniors that finished their seasons out strong, and The Lady Raiders had a great season and have a great future ahead of them.
