Seven Runners from the Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams participated in the IHSAA Regional at Noblesville this Saturday. The meet is dubbed by Indiana Runner as the toughest Regional in the state. Seven of the top twenty-five teams in the state competed in the meet as well as 10 of the top 25 girls runners in the state in one of the fastest courses to date.
The girls race started out fast with a pack of 25 runners finishing the first stage in under 6 minutes. The Lady Raiders placed 9th as a team in a Regional that featured the biggest schools in the state. Mary Anna Wehrle led the team placing 8th overall, just seconds behind the 3rd place finisher. This was another school record and it put her in 2nd overall for a runner from a non-qualifying school with a total of 10 runners moving on. Mariah Wehrle legged out an impressive 10th place finish to qualify for the next round in an action packed race. Freshman sensation, Jenna Gruber was just behind Mariah Wehrle as she clocked in with her personal record. Hannah Wells also ran well in the race.
The Boys Season came to an end as Connor Schepers and Mitchell Jacobs ran well but were shy of a qualifying time. Schepers ran his best race of the year and Jacobs gained some valuable experience for the upcoming years.
The Wehrle sisters will run again Saturday in the Semi-State at Blue River Park in Shelbyville. Their start time is scheduled for 10:30 and tickets will be $5 a person.
Go out and support your Raiders!!
