On Tuesday night, the Cardinal Ritter Boys Basketball Team travel to Brebeuf to take on the Braves in a possible Sectional preview. The team looked locked in and ready to go against a lackluster crowd at Brebeuf and any offensive mistake by the Raiders was offset by great hustle on defense. The Raiders played well and didn’t back down, but ultimately fell to the Braves 60-45.
In the first quarter, the Raiders struggled to shoot the ball and most of the points came from inside the paint. Brebeuf went on a 6-0 scoring run which was ended by a “Nasty” Nate Soltis bucket off of a pass from “I can see for” Miles Tracy. Brebeuf kept pushing through afterwards which saw them ahead 14-7 at the end of the first.
The second half saw the Raiders start to bust through the Braves stingy defense especially in transition, but Brebeuf kept their foot on the gas. The Braves began to pull away, but the momentum seemed to shift back into the Raiders favor when Soltis hit their first 3 of the night. After that, Tharran Cook took a charge and hit a baseline jumper followed by another charge call on Brebeuf courtesy of Dan Bayler. The Braves still managed to go on a run to see a 37-21 halftime lead.
Tracy started the second half with a heavily contested layup that seemed to give the Raiders new life. Soltis followed that up with a steal and a patented Soltis 2 handed slam. After another score it was a 10 point game. The defense continued to play hard. Cook had a steal who passed it up to Tracy for a flashy Euro-step finger roll followed by a steal by Tracy who passed it to Soltis for another dunk shot.
The Raiders run was not enough, as the Braves bounced back and pulled out the victory.
Leading the Raiders in scoring was Soltis with 14 followed by Tracy with 12, Cook with 7 and “Finding” Nemo Jones with 6.
The Raiders look to right the ship Friday at Crispus Attucks. JV starts at 6 with Varsity starting 20 minutes after JV conclusion.
