Multiple Teams · Boys Win First Game Of ICC Play


The Cardinal Ritter Boys Basketball Team opened up Indiana Crossroads Conference play with a 66-41 victory over the Lutheran Saints on Saturday.  The Raiders started off hot leading the Saints 22-10 after the first period.  The Saints responded in the 2nd with some timely 3 point makes to cut the Raider deficit to 9 as the Raiders entered halftime with a 32-23 lead.

Cardinal Ritter put the game away in 3rd period holding the Saints to only 7 points on the quarter.  The 3rd period was sealed with a buzzer beater 3 from Senior Shelby Turner.  This was Turner’s first action of the season since getting injured this summer.

Daion “All Day” Daniels led the team in scoring with 11 followed by “Nasty” Nate Soltis and “I Can See For” Miles Tracy with 10 points each. Also contributing for Cardinal Ritter were Tharran Cook (6 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal), Brice Buels (5 points), Nemo Jones (5 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block), Joey Gruber (5 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal), Dan Bayler (5 points, 2 rebounds), LeRon Fleming (3 points), Marlon Anderson (3 points, 1 rebound), and Shelby Turner (3 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal).

The Raiders were monsters on the boards finishing the game with 32 rebounds (13 offensive / 19 defensive), three blocks and six steals.

The JV Raiders entered halftime tied 19-19, before exploding in the 3rd quarter and out scoring Lutheran 21-2 in the 3rd quarter   This 3rd quarter outburst led to a  54-32 JV win.  Damon Oagletree led with 13, LJ Woods scored 12, and Will Sandifer finished with 10.  
 
The Freshman Raiders recovered to being 10 points down in the 3rd quarter to have a shot to win it when time expired.  Aron Gerbremskel had a shot to tie the game but it rimmed out and the Raiders lost 37-38.  Aron Gerbremskel and Greg Meriweather both finished with 14 points to lead the Raiders.
