Boys Junior Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Basketball · 2nd Annual Silent Night; Major Success For Raiders

Si-Lent Night…

Night-Watch Night…

Rai-ders Won…

Ti-gers Lost…

You know the song!!!

The Cardinal Ritter Boys Basketball Team hosted Indiana Crossroads Conference foe, Triton Central, in the Second Annual Silent Night Game.  The atmosphere was electric, the fans were rabid, and the Raiders did not disappoint in a 96-45 dismantling of the Tigers on Friday night.  If you missed the game, you missed an event that will be talked about for years to come.  It was also the annual Nightwatch where the West Deanery Schools come to Cardinal Ritter for a night of basketball, food and fun!  What a night it was.

As the game started, the band and crowd went eerily silent waiting to erupt at the 10th Raider point.  The Cardinal Ritter squad acted as a well trained boxer, hitting with small jabs until they could unleash the big uppercut to turn the momentum.  After the Raiders finally went up 9-4 and the tension in the gym was so thick, you could cut it with a knife.  Finally the Raiders came into their half court offense, swung the ball to Joey “Gamer” Gruber, for the three on the left elbow extended and… Splash!!! Cue the Raider Brigade! The place went absolutely bonkers!  The Student Section spilled into the floor forcing the Raiders to call a timeout and propelling the team to a 26-4 run in the first quarter.

The intensity the crowd exuded especially fueled “Nasty” Nate Soltis who hit 4 threes in the first quarter and led the team to a 48-23 halftime score.  “The kids and staff feed off the energy of the student section, and their energy certainly fueled us tonight,” Coach Moore said of the electric environment at Cardinal Ritter.

Cardinal Ritter cemented their lead in the third, scoring 28 points.  Every player played significant minutes as the chants from the Raider Nation called Coach Moore to enter their players.  The Raiders won every aspect of the game that night as they were active on the glass with 41 rebounds (14 offensive), five blocks, 15 steals and a season high 96 points.

Soltis led the way with 33 points followed by double digit scorers, “I Can See For” Miles Tracy with 13 and “Finding” Nemo Jones with 10.  Also contributing to the Raiders success was Tharran “T-Bone” Cook and(4 rebounds, 2 steals) Shelby “The Swift” Turner (6 rebounds 1 steal) with 8, Dan “Dan-o-mite” Baylor and Marlon “Hotshot” Anderson with 6, LeRon “Fencebuster” Fleming with 5, Gruber with 3 (6 rebounds, 1 block) and Daion “All Day” Daniels with 2 (2 rebounds 2 steals).

Coach Moore was quoted after the game saying, “thank you to the Band, Cheerleaders and students for making the Silent Night an even bigger success in year 2 and making it an unforgettable night for the program.”

The JV Raiders started the night off with a 67-57 win over Triton Central.  The JV team had 4 in double figures led by LeRon Fleming and Damon Oagletree with 12 points, and Rodney Adams and LaDaryll Woods with 10 points.

Both teams are back in action on Wednesday against the rival Bishop Chatard Trojans at home.  The theme for the students is “Cupid.”  This means find some sheets and come in a toga, to look like a cherub and support your Raiders on Valentine’s Day.  You will not be able to find a better thing to do especially for the price!!

Go Raiders!!
