The Raiders Basketball Team gave everyone a Valentine’s Day present on Wednesday. Everyone that took their valentine to Cardinal Ritter for their game was treated to a 75-53 bludgeoning over rival Bishop Chatard. The Raider Brigade sat in the student section wearing red and pink and if they didn’t they changed to the Raider red quickly.
The Raiders put on a show and it started swiftly as they put points on the board early, claiming a 34-15 lead at the half. After a thrilling cheer leading exhibition at the half the crowd energized the team to score a game high 22 points in the third quarter on the strength of a 9-2 run which cemented their lead late in the game.
“Nasty” Nate Soltis and “I Can See For” Miles Tracy led the team in scoring with 20 points a piece. Both players had dunk shots that set a tone for the entire evening. Soltis had one of his patented filthy dunks in the lane while Tracy came down the lane with a defender, cocked back and jammed the rock hard through the hoop. Soltis found success all over the court, making 54% of shots while also sinking 100% (5-5) of free throws attempted.
Tharran “T-Bone” Cook was also a major contributor to the Raiders success dropping 11 points, followed by Joey “Gamer” Gruber with 8 (5 rebounds, 1 block), Dan-“O-Mite” Bayler with 7, “Finding” Nemo Jones with 4 (3 rebounds, 1 block), Shelby “The Swift” Turner with 3 (4 rebounds, 1 steal) and Marlon “Hotshot” Anderson with 2. Cook also cleaned up the glass pulling down 7 boards while adding 3 steals. The Raiders finished the game with 40 rebounds (11 offensive), 2 blocks and a whopping 13 steals.
The JV Raiders were also in action Wednesday night and took the “W” with a 49-43 defeat over the Trojans. Damon Oagletree had arguably the best game of his career finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds all while being a monster rim protector.
Both teams are back in action Friday as they travel to Covenant Christian. The theme for the student section is sports attire. Looks to be another exciting game!
