Boys Junior Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Basketball · Senior Night: Big Win For Raiders Heading Into Sectionals

The Cardinal Ritter Boys Basketball Team got another great tune-up for the upcoming IHSAA State Tournament on Friday.  The Raiders celebrated Senior Night which was their last home game and regular season game before heading to Guerin Catholic for the Sectional Tournament with a victory of #5 ranked Tri-West 68-61.  Before the game the Raiders honored their 5 seniors and the 2 senior cheerleaders.  Brice “Buckets” Buels, Tharran “T-Bone” Cook, Daion “All Day” Daniels, “I Can See For” Miles Tracy and Shelby “The Swift” Turner as well as Jacquie Baker and Jaelyn Whitley were all honored with their friend in loved ones by their sides.

The Raiders started the game slow, maybe it was the pomp and circumstance, maybe it was the nerves of the biggest crowd of the season, but began making stops and driving hard to the bucket early in the second quarter, bringing the Raider Brigade’s cheers to an uproar and swinging the momentum completely in their favor.  As the team began to gel, the Raiders had cut their 12 point deficit to 6, trailing 33-27 heading into the locker room.

At halftime the Raider Nation honored the senior Band and Swimming and Diving Team members that have worked so hard for Cardinal Ritter over the course of their career.

The momentum stayed in the Raiders favor as they used the 3rd quarter to take the lead.  The game was far from over early in the second half as there was a back and forth struggle with the Bruins all the way until the final horn but the Raiders finished strong adding 21 points in the final quarter.

The birthday boy, Tracy, was an absolute force on both ends of the court as he locked down the Bruins best shooter and came up with big shot after big shot throughout the game.  He also utilized his height to get to the rack with ease in the second half finishing the game with 23 points on 50% shooting while earning a double-double with 11 rebounds (plus 2 steals and a key block).  “Nasty” Nate Soltis also found his niche later in the game when he began driving the rock to the hoop, finishing with 23 as well while going 9-14 from the field and improving his free throw shooting hitting 71% from the line.  Cook contributed with 8 points 4 rebounds and a steal, Joey “Gamer” Gruber chipped in 7 points, 4 boards and a block while playing solid defense and Turner added 6 points and 2 rebounds.  The Raiders finished the game with 39 rebounds (16 offensive) 3 blocks and 7 steals.

The JV Raiders ended their season with a 71-61 win over Tri-West.  Leading the JV Offense was Freshman Aiden Cannon with 22 points.  Sophomore Rodney Adams finished with 14, and Damon Oagletree added 12 points while also being a monster on the glass.

The Raiders are back in action Friday at 6 at Guerin Catholic High School.  They will take on the winner of the Guerin – Bishop Chatard game that takes place tonight at 7.  Tickets will be $6.
