The Boys Cardinal Ritter Volleyball Team, tied for a 9th place ranking in the Coaches Poll this week, traveled to Zionsville on Tuesday night and got the win 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 25-14). This takes the team’s record to 7-2 on the season. The Raiders got off to a slow start and barely managed to get the first set win. A couple of serve receive errors, a couple of serving errors and only 4 kills resulted in a set two loss. Then the Raiders started playing their game, stayed focused and picked up the on-court communication to easily win the last two sets.
The Raider DS squad looked very good tonight with Josh Strati scooping up 25 digs, Matthew Walters collected 15 digs, Cade Merrill had 10 and Charlie Magan added 5. In addition, the defense at the net was the best it has been all season, Eric “Cookie” Krumm had 1 solo block and 3 assist blocks, Tharran “T-Bone” Cook had 3 assist blocks, Sean Bennett had 2 assist blocks and Will Roberts, Josh “JC” Christian, Mike Isakson each had 1 assist block.
Roberts connected with Krumm for 8 kills while also getting 5 kills of his own. Christian had 4 kills on the night, Ben “The Jet” Egenolf had 3, Isakson, Merrill, and Cook each had 2 kills, while Strati and Bennett had 1 apiece. From the service line Merrill had 3 aces, Roberts had 2 aces and Krumm was a perfect 11/11 with 1 ace.
The JV Raiders suffered their second loss of the season at the hands of Zionsville Eagles 1-2 (25-21, 21-25, 11-15). The Raiders came out strong in set 1 with some very convincing defense at the net, but just couldn’t hold the momentum throughout the rest of match. Bobby Sulecki led the team in kills with 3 and added 2 solo blocks. John Wagoner had 2 solo blocks and 1 assist block, Elliot Domogalik had 1 of each. Andrew Harvey and Domogalik had 2 kills each, Stephen Starsiak and Wagoner each added 1. The back row defense was led by Mark Adolay with 17 digs, followed by Zane Middaugh with 12, David Eisele with 7, Eric Diaz with 6. Michael Kozlowski had 9 assists and 5 digs on the night. Several JV Raiders were perfect from the service line, Middaugh was 13/13 including 3 aces, Adolay was 11/11 with 1 ace, Bobby Isakson was 9/9, Sulecki was 8/8 with an ace, and Wagoner was 5/5.
The teams travel to Brebeuf High School on Wednesday night. The JV match will start at 6p with Varsity to follow.
