The Cardinal Ritter Baseball Team traveled to Ben Davis for the Giants Senior Night for a tune up before the State Tournament. In sub par conditions, the Raiders came away with a 9-3 win accruing 11 hits on the night.
Luke “The Laser” Shearer was tough to hit on the mound even after what he believed was not his best stuff. He only gave up 5 hits while striking out 5, but gave up an uncharacteristically high 4 walks. Most of his troubles came in the first two innings where the Raiders had an errors and gave up 2 runs in the 1st and 1 in the 2nd. However, Shearer found his footing (literally and figuratively) and pulled through with the “W.” Joey “Gamer” Gruber came in for 1 inning of work in the bottom of the 7th.
The offense was led by Henry “H-Bomb” Woodcock who stayed hot at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double and a couple of missiles while driving in 3 runs. Dillon “Rube” Olejnik was also a force to reckon with going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Jack “Rabbit” Henninger hit the ball well ripping 2 balls, one for a single and one for a double while adding 2 RBI. Gruber and Le’Ron “Mr. Fanstastic” Fleming both added hits on the day as did Kyle “Kay Pee -Zee” Price who hit another monster rope to left center just short of a home run (but still managed a double).
