The Cardinal Ritter Baseball Team got things rolling for a tournament run with a 14-3 beat down over rival Heritage Christian in a 14-3 5 inning game. The Raiders scored one in the 2nd when Henry “H-Bomb” Woodcock unleashed a missile over the center field wall to put the Raiders up 1-0. However, in the 3rd, the Raiders gave up 3 runs on 2 errors and looked out of sorts going into the 4th inning.
In the fourth the Raiders led off with a bunt single by Joey “Gamer” Gruber. With 2 outs, Kyle “Kay Pee-Zee” Price got hit by a pitch and Jack “Rabbit” Henninger followed that up with an RBI single scoring Gruber. Le’Ron “Mr. Fantastic” Fleming then came up and roped a 3-1 pitch over the left center wall for a 3 run home run that put the Raiders up 6-3.
After blanking the Eagles in the bottom half of the 4th the Raiders offense went bonkers scoring 9 more runs in the 5th off 7 walks, 1 HBP 2 doubles and 2 singles. It looked as if the only thing that could stop the Raiders was the rain that began to come down. Fortunately, the Raiders got through the inning and came back to put up another goose egg on the Eagles which was capped off by a 4-6-3 double play started by Price.
Woodcock picked up the complete game victory with the only hiccup coming in the 3rd inning. Even with the struggle, he only allowed 4 hits and 2 walks striking out 4 in his first game back from an arm scare.
The offense was led by Fleming who added another single to go 2 for 3 on the day with the aforementioned home run and 4 RBI. Jacke Henninger was key as he went 2 for 3 as well with 2 RBI. Woodcock only had the solo blast but also picked up another 3 RBI on the day. Damien “Llama” Wallace, Luke “The Laser” Shearer and Gruber all added hits for the Raiders as well. Price was a menace on the base paths and on defense while hitting his farthest ball of the season about 350 feet. Unfortunately, it was just foul.
