Tuesday, September 4th: It was 90 degrees and sunny, but our Raiders still fought the heat! There was real competition at Riverside Park, but the Raiders still ended up with phenomenal finishes. Our boys took second place and our girls won it all!
The Cardinal Ritter boys were only behind Tindley High School by a few points to pull in a second place finish. Johnathan Tune placed 2nd and Wesley Kochell placed 5th. Isaac Briggeman and Julius Johnican followed in 7th and 8th place.
With hard work and dedication, the Lady Riaders won overall with Sarah Jacob placing 3rd and Lauryn Hacus in 5th. Then followed Jessica Bontempo and Sophie Konger in 6th and 7th. Maria Egenolf also worked hard, as always, earning 13th.
It was also great to see Wesley Kochell doing acts of kindness before the boys started their race. While a girl from one of the opposing teams was not feeling well once she had finished, Wesley stepped in to help her breathe, walk, and find water to drink. This accomplishes our mission at Cardinal Ritter High School. As it says in our mission statement, “As followers of Christ, we encourage our students to share their gifts and talents in service to others.”
Overall, our Raiders truly worked hard to have the results they achieved. The grueling heat did not stop them from finishing those 5 kilometers. Cross Country does not only involve individual performance, but also teamwork and encouragement. One of our Lady Raiders, Jessica Bontempo, stated in an interview, “we are a family team”.
