Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · XC; Boys Take 5th, Girls Win

The Cardinal Ritter Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams competed at Horizon Christan on Wednesday in the Scecina Invitational.  The teams saw some great weather and performed with the Boys Team taking 5th place overall and the Lady Raiders winning it all by beating Herron High School by one point 40-39.  This marks the first time in Cardinal Ritter history that the Girls Team has won the Scecina Invite.

Sarah Jacob was the top performer as she won the invitational for the girls side.  Maria Egenolf had possibly her best showing of her career as she took 5th and passed a group of runners during her last 1 K.  Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Raiders was Lauryn Harcus in 9th place, Jessica Bontempo in 12th and Sophie Konger in 13th.

Johnathan Tune led the boys team finishing 10th overall in their heat.  Wes Kochell ran his best race of the year following Tune in 13th place.

Coach Ford was quoted afterwards saying, “The Stars of the meet were tough to pick.  For the girls I could not distinguish between Maria who if do not pass those runners the last 1k (one being a scoring place) we would not have won, or if Sarah Jacob didn’t run a great race and also passed a Herron (who lost by 1 point) runner in last 500 meters and was beaten by her by ~ 30 seconds just a few weeks ago, we would not have won, so I choose them both.  On the boys side it was between Wes and Johnathan as they both ran hard.  The edge goes to Wes for being a senior, leading the boys before and after the race, and mostly because he ran his best race by far.”
