Unfortunately, the Lady Raider Varsity Volleyball Team underwent a tough loss to Speedway in all 3 sets. Going against a higher ranked team in the state is always a hard battle, but the Raiders still fought hard. However, in the last 2 sets, there were many moments that the Lady Raiders were far ahead, but just could not pull through. On the bright side, it was CYO night for our West Deanery Grade Schools. The schools who came were Saint Monica, Saint Malachy, Saint Michael, Saint Christopher, and Holy Angels. There were opportunities for earning prizes and for showing their volleyball skills.
The night started out amazingly with Junior Varsity prevailing Speedway starting at 5:30 pm in our beloved home gym. They won the 2 sets with Maggie Cmehil having 9 digs and Mackenzie Grezgoreski with many kills.
And even though our varsity team endured a tough night, there were also very significant plays. Linsey “Say Hey” Waggoner had 15 digs and Grace “Breaking” Hart”s”man followed with 13 digs. Both Grace Arm”And Hammer” bruster and Kelsey Waggoner had 7 kills while MariClaire Warnock had 12 assists.
Even though it was a tough night, there is still hope for the rest of the season. As varsity volleyball player Megan VanGheem said in an interview, “As long as we win in our hearts… I think that’s the main goal I have for our team”. And that is the right kind of attitude needed in any sport!
