Boys Varsity Football · Football Headed To Triton; Homecoming This Week

By Linsey Waggoner

On Friday, September 28th, the Raiders Varsity Football Team traveled to Beech Grove for a 7 pm kick off  against the Hornets. Beech Grove and Cardinal Ritter have very much split wins over the past few years. Sometimes Cardinal Ritter wins and sometimes Beech Grove wins, and unfortunately for the raiders the hornets ended up victorious last friday. However, the Raiders definitely made them work for it. The game ended in a 49-22 loss for the Cardinal Ritter Raiders.

The Hornets scored early, putting the Raiders down in the first quarter. The Raiders were just starting to make a comeback when quarterback, Jack “Rabbit” Heninger (junior), injured his shoulder.  “The” LaDarryl Woods came in under center, and did a great job pushing the Raiders as they managed to score multiple touchdowns within the rest of the game.   On the second drive for the Raiders after Henninger’s injury, the team went on the rushing attack with Woods leading the charge.  “The Round Mound of Touchdown” Ashton Hall sealed the drive with a 5 yard touchdown run.

Leading the offense for the raiders was Darryl “Quicksilver”  Roberson with 14 carries for 87 yards. Roberson also led the team with the most touchdowns, running the ball in twice to score.  Henninger had 5 carries for 23 yards before he became injured. Also, Woods had 7 carries for 36 yards and scored a touchdown for the raiders. The last touchdown was scored by Hall, who finished with 5 carries for 54 yards.  Leading the receivers were Timmy Godsil with 5 catches for 110 yards, Reid Swails with 7 catches for 44 yards, Donovan “Spiderman” Morris with 1 catch for 13 yards, and \Roberson with 2 catches for 11 yards. The raiders were led in passing by Henninger , who went 14- 21 passing for 166 yards and LaDarryl Woods, who went 2-3 passing for 23 yards.

The Boys of Fall are back in action in another Indiana Crossroads Conference game next week against Scecina.

The game is at home and will start at 7pm. It is also homecoming, so be sure to watch halftime to see all the princes and princesses for each grade be announced.
