The Cardinal Ritter Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams competed this weekend in the IHSAA Semi-State Championship in Shelbyville. Both teams competed hard with the boys finishing 11th and the girls finishing 7th, just a few points of making the podium. Even though the teams didn’t advance, for the first in school history, 3 individuals advanced to the State Final.
Paul “Streaker” Stamm finished 20th overall giving him an opportunity to compete this weekend in the boys final. The boys ran very well as the course was tougher with the wind and the added length. Coach Ford said of the race, “I was so proud of how Mitchell Jacob ran as he finished off his senior year in style, sprinting those last hundreds meters and passing many as he did. Paul Stamm is one tough runner as he persevered the last mile despite being exhausted. He dug down deep and hung onto that lead pack like very few runners could. Most would have thrown in the white flag and gradually finished many spots back. For his effort he is the second boy runner from CR for qualify for state.”
Coach Ford added, “The Stars of the meet… for the boys, it may be a surprise, but those that know me won’t be, as I always favor the seniors. I choose Senior Mitchell Jacob over Paul because he ran hard every second of that race like it was his last and it was. He had a great season and one I’m sure he will be very proud when looking back.”
