Boys Varsity Wrestling · Wrestlers Take 3rd In City; Rodgers Wins!

The Cardinal Ritter Wrestling program had arguably its most successful results at the City Tournament in school history as they walked away with an overall 3rd place finish for the team.  This achievement was capped off by a win at the heavyweight division for Javon “The Shield” Rodgers who pulled off the victory in the last match of the day against a formidable Manual foe.

With Rodgers win he was also named MVP of the entire tournament going undefeated on the day.

The Raiders had 8 more wrestlers place in the top 6 throughout the day and the results are as follows:

145 Nathan Cmehil- 6th
160 Antwann Dix- 3rd
170 Mieran Teklebirhan- 6th (fantastic showing for first Varsity tournament!)
182 Joe Bishop- 3rd
195 Jaylen Williams- 3rd
220 Derek Gomez- 3rd
Gabe Castenada also wrestled at 160 in the JV rounds and went 3-0 on the day.  Coach Tekippe said of Castaneda’s performance, “Most improved wrestler on the day in my book.”
Coach Tekippe also said after the day, “We had a fantastic day at the City Tournament! As their coach I am proud of everyone’s achievements!”
