The Lady Raiders Basketball Teams traveled to Decatur Central on Tuesday night as part of a program boy/girl doubleheader. The non-conference battle during finals week needed overtime to decide the outcome. Cardinal Ritter trailed at the end of the first and second quarters. Down 20-16 to start the second half, the girls put together a strong 3rd quarter, outscoring Decatur 16-7 to lead 32-27 after 3 quarters. Gabby “Heat Check” Hicks was the difference in the 3rd scoring 14 of her game high 22 points. After scoring only 6 points in the 4th quarter, regulation ended with a 38-38 tie. The Lady Raiders outlasted Decatur in overtime. Elena “The Closer” Closser earned her nickname as she came up big with 2 free throws late in OT to seal the victory. The final score was 43-40.
The JV squad also played but started off slowly. The Lady Raiders finally righted the ship to stay competitive. With a couple of injuries thinning the bench, the girls put in a valiant effort. A last second shot to win it fell just short and the winning streak stops at 5 games. Lady Raiders lose 26-27.
Maddie Sandifer led all scores with 14 and Lauren Beaman added 5.
The JV team is off until after Christmas.
Next up, the Varsity Lady Raiders will make there annual holiday trip to Vincennes to play in the Vincennes McDonald’s Holiday Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
