Girls Junior Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball · Lady Raiders In City Tourney

The Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball Team opened up City Tournament action on Monday with a home victory over Howe High School.  The girls kept their poise in a difficult contest coming away with a first round win in a 58-20 lopsided victory.  The Raiders were led in scoring by Meghan “Sure Shot” Sandifer with 23 points and Gabby “Heat Check” Hicks and Emma “Lights Out” Litzelman were also in double figures with 16 and 13 respectively.

The next night, Cardinal Ritter traveled to play Cathedral.  The Lady Raiders got off to a good start leading at halftime 29-24.  The second half didn’t go as well.  The Raiders turned the ball over with regularity and were out rebounded by a large margin.  It proved to be to costly with the girls losing 61-55.  The Raiders were led in scoring with Sandifer having a big night scoring 25 points and Hicks had 14 points.

After an opening round bye, the JV Lady Raiders took on the Cathedral Lady Irish in the second round of the city tournament. The squad started out hot and had an early lead but the game was tied at halftime. Cathedral came out in a 1-3-1 defense to start the second half and drastically slowed the tempo of the game. They took a double digit lead into the fourth quarter. True to form, the Lady Raiders fought back to tie the game late. But timely free throw shooting by Cathedral proved too much for the Lady Raiders as they fell 30-36.
Maddie Sandifer led the scoring with 9 while Liv Webb and Jenna Gruber added 7 each.
The team heads to University this Monday the 14th for their next contest.
