The Cardinal Ritter Raider Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated the Providence Cristo Rey Wolves on Wednesday night here at home with a final score of 90-72.
Starting the game, the Raiders got the ball first with Marlon “Hot Shot” Anderson, Jr. scoring the first point of the game. Right off the bat, the crowd could tell that the Wolves were going to be a challenging foe to beat. As the Raiders scored points, so did they; both of the teams’ offenses were formidable. Anderson and Dan “O-Mite” Baylor were both able to score on impressive 3 point shots. At the end of the quarter, the Raiders were in the lead.
During the second quarter, the Wolves started off scoring point after point. They were able to catch up to the Raiders and were 3 pts ahead of them (24-27) at the 5:23 mark. The Raiders and the Wolves were really close throughout this quarter. People in the crowd were on the edge of their seats waiting to see who would come out as victor. A minute before the quarter ended, “Nasty” Nate Soltis made his first slam dunk of the game, bringing the Raiders ahead of the Wolves by one point (33-32). The Raider student section roared with triumphant cheer, rallying up the Raiders. Damon “Old Oak” Ogletree scored the last point of this quarter ending with the Raiders up, 37-34.
In the second half of the game, the match was as intense as ever. The Wolves were once again very close to catching up the Raiders at the 3:49 mark in the third quarter (45-42). Soltis made his second slam dunk and made the scored the last point of the third quarter.
The Wolves trailed the Raiders for the rest of the game as the Raiders dominated and won their last home game.
The Raiders were led by Soltis who was a beast in the paint and a monster on the boards racking up 28 points and 20 rebounds. Ogletree also earned a double double with 17 points and 13 boards. Anderson, Baylor and Aidan Cannon each dropped 17, 11 and 8 respectively.
