The boys pairs finished 1st, 5th, 20th, 27th, and 28th with the Eli Bush and Peter Sperry as the winning pair. Paul “Streaker” Stamm, who had by far the fastest splits of every runner in the field with 3 miles in 14:42, and his partner Johnathan Tune placed 5th. Stamm was one of the only runners to have a negative split on the day. Another with a negative split was freshman, Robert Brownridge, who achieved this feat in his first high school race.
The girls pairs placed 1st, 5th, 17th, and 20th with “Marathon” Mary Anna Wehrle and Jenna Gruber as the winning pair. Hannah “Kick” Wells and Sarah Jacob placed 5th, and Annie Waters and Jessica Bontempo placed 17th. It’s unfortunate to have cross country standout, Mariah “MHR” Werhle out, but the team didn’t miss a beat as Jenna and Mary Anna almost ran the identical time as the two sisters did last year.
Coach Ford also said of the Lady Raider runners, “It was exciting watching Hannah and Sarah going back and forth from 4th place 8th as Sarah brought us to 5th in her third mile and Hannah almost caught 4th with a negative split.”
He continued, “The Stars of the meet for the boys was an easy decision based on what (I said earlier), Paul Stamm for his unselfishness and amazing performance. On the girls side, it was tough as I could have chosen any one from the top two pairs, but the deciding factor was the negative split ran by Hannah Wells as her 3rd mile was faster than her 2nd and everyone knows the how I admire anyone that does that when running hard the whole time.”
Great job Raiders!!!
