Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · Raiders Soccer Beats Bishop Chatard

The Cardinal Ritter Soccer Team traveled to Bishop Chatard High School on Thursday night to take on the Sectional rival Trojans.  At the end of the night, the Raiders came away with two victories and looked ready to build on the rest of the season.
The JV Team started off slow and once again found themselves trailing early down 2-0. As the first half went on, the Raiders began looking more and more comfortable as they started to control the pace of the game. Just as it started to look like Cardinal Ritter would go into halftime without shrinking the deficit, Fernando Sandoval and Luis Hernandez each found the back of the net to go into the half at 2-2.
The second half belonged to the Raiders, they came out strong and never let up. 15 minutes in Edgar Gomez hit a beautiful shot from the corner of the goalie box to give the Raiders their first lead of the game. After another 15 minutes, Edgar Gomez sealed the game on a PK after Fernando Sandoval was fouled in the box for a 4-2 win over the Trojans.
After the first win, the Varsity Team looked good early and spent much of the first 20 minutes on the attack, but the Trojans defense was just good enough to keep them off the scoreboard. Then, with 16 minutes remaining in the first half, Andy “Bend It Like” Bonilla lined up a free kick just outside the box and beat the keeper to the far side for the first goal of the game.  The Raiders lead wouldn’t last long as Chatard was awarded a PK and capitalized on the opportunity. As time ticked down under a minute before halftime, Cardinal Ritter pushed to regain the lead and were rewarded on a cross from Ozvaldo Carlos to Chris Murray and were back in front 2-1.
The second half belonged to the Raiders who dominated possession and controlled the pace of the game. After 20 minutes of play time,

Scott”… Scott… Scott, Scott, Scott, Scott… Scott… Scott, Scott, Scott, Scott… Scott… Scott, Scott, Scott, Scott” ROGGEMAN snuck behind the defense and put in a cross to Erick “The Marksman” Martinez who put it away. The Raiders would go on to coast to victory with a final score of 3-1.

The JV Soccer Team is back in action this Saturday at the Panther Invite at North Central High School.  The first game begins at 11 AM.
