The Cardinal Ritter Boys Soccer Program hosted 3A Plainfield on Saturday. The #5 2A ranked Raiders looked to build on their winning streak against the formidable Quakers.
The JV Soccer Team played first and things got off to a shaky start and the Raiders quickly found themselves down 2 goals. With about 15 minutes left in the half, Luis Hernandez put Cardinal Ritter on the scoreboard, the Raiders were unable to pull the game even before halftime and would go into the break down 2-1.
The second half didn’t go in Cardinal Ritter’s favor. The Quakers added three quick goals and extended their lead to 5-1 midway through the second half. The Raiders couldn’t close the gap, despite a strong effort, and would go on to lose 5-1.
The Varsity soccer team took the field next and found themselves in an even match early on. After 20 minutes of back and forth action, Jason “High Press” Hofer found Erick “The Marksman” Martinez on a through ball in the middle and Martinez put it away. The defense would continue to hold strong and the Raiders would take their 1-0 lead into the half.
The second half was a defensive struggle, with both teams fielding strong defensive units. Neither team could break through the final defensive third and had to settle for long shots. Cardinal Ritter would go on to preserve their 1-0 lead until the final whistle and Hayden “Grinder” Grider recorded the clean sheet in goal.
The Raiders are back in action Tuesday, as they take on another 3A powerhouse in Pike High School. JV is scheduled for a 5:30 start with Varsity beginning after.
