The Cardinal Ritter Cross Country Teams traveled to Marion Indiana on Saturday to take part in the 2019 Marion Invite. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and the runners did not disappoint as the team had 8 PRs and 1 school record broken on the day even with a couple of runners unable to make it. That person with the broken record was none other than August Booster Club Athlete of the Month Paul “Streaker” Stamm who lowered his school record down to 15:39.7.
The girls team placed 18th overall as every girl ran their best race of the year. Jenna Gruber ran an impressive 19:14, winning a medal and making it to the podium. Hannah “Kick” Wells, Annie Waters, Jessica Bontempo and Lauryn Harcus all ran over 1 minute faster than they did just a few weeks back with Bontempo earning a big time PR. Coach Ford said of the Girls Team, ” I was impressed by how each girl ran a way faster first mile… and all of them came back in the last mile. Jenna ran maybe the fastest first mile ever at CR.”
The boys fared as well as the girls with Stamm being a major highlight on the day while placing 14th overall. 6 out of the 10 runners all ran PRs with Nicholas Mark, Johnathan Tune, Aaron Anderson, Owen Sulecki and Eli Bush joining Stamm on the PR train.
Coach Ford said of the teams, “The Stars of the Meet, on the boys side… was Pual for placing 5th in that stacked field and lowering his school record. On the girls side it was the “PR Girls” of Jessica and Jenna!”
