The weather was perfect for the Raiders to face off against Guerin Catholic on Saturday. The accommodations were equally beautiful at their tennis complex. Mark “Shake and” Baker prevailed at 1 singles winning 6-1 6-1 and was the teams lone win today. Jack “Rally” Radecki’s winning streak came to an end, but not without a fight worthy of his senior status and ability.
Radecki fought back in the second set and tied things up at 6-6, forcing a tiebreaker. He got behind early though losing 5-7. Coach Rubey said of Radecki, “The coaches were proud of how he fought, maintaining his composure despite (the distractions).”
Mike Richards returned to #3 singles and while he came up short, Coach’s Baker and Rubey are very happy with his progress. Luke Cairns joined Simeon Pontones at #3 doubles and Nathan Martin moved up to 1 doubles with senior “Captain Calculus” Trae Rott. Both doubles teams were out matched by players who have clearly played together before. Coach Rubey stated “It’s not easy to face a squad who is ranked but we represented our Raider Nation admirably and I am so proud of how our guys continue to grow as players and young men”.
Next week has the team on court every day, Monday through Saturday. The Raiders travel to Tarkington Park to face Shortridge on Monday and Heritage Christian joins them at Riverside on Tuesday.
It’s a great day to be a Raider! Go Raiders!
