The Cardinal Ritter Boys Soccer Team traveled to Scecina on Thursday to take on the Crusaders with the Indiana Crossroads Conference title potentially on the line. Both sides looked pretty evenly matched in the opening minutes. The Raiders struggled to break the final line of defense and get a clean look, while the Crusaders opted to settle for long shots that rarely found their target. At the midway point, a hand ball in the box from Scecina led to a PK from Jason “Holding Roll” Hofer that would put the Raiders up 1-0, a lead they would take into halftime.
Scecina came out strong to start the second half and were rewarded with a goal 2 minutes in. Cardinal Ritter would get themselves settled in and start to regain possession, but again struggled to get anything past the Crusaders final defensive line. The game would remain a stalemate as the clock ticked down and the Raiders pushed hard for the go ahead goal. Even though they got some good looks, nothing got past the keeper and the game would head to overtime.
Cardinal Ritter continued to control the game and were pushing hard on the opposing defense. Once again, they were able to get some clean looks at goal, but couldn’t put anything away and would go to PKs. The Raiders shooting woes would continue in PKs and they would go on to lose 4-1 for their first conference loss of the year.
The JV team would only play one half against Scecina and would find themselves locked up for most of the half as well. Both teams struggled to move the ball into the attacking third and didn’t do much to test the keepers. As the clock neared the 10 minute mark, the Crusaders went on the attack and went up 1-0. Just a few minutes later, they would score another goal as the Raiders would go on to lose 2-0.
