The Cardinal Ritter varsity volleyball team defeated Covenant Christian Monday night in four sets. In the first set the Raiders and the Warriors battled back and forth for each point, before the Raiders eventually won 25-22. The Warriors then came out strong in set two winning 14-25. However, the Raiders bounced back in set three by jumping out to an early 12-1 lead thanks to a long service run by senior Megan Van Gheem. The Raiders took set three 25-11. In another back-and-forth battle, with lots of long rallies, set four was eventually won by the Raiders 26-24.
Megan Van Gheem ran the offense for the Raiders with 24 assists while Alexis Priesthoff added 18 assists. Van Gheem also had 4 aces for the Raiders. Offensively Kelsey Waggoner had 14 kills while Audrey Odier added 11 kills. Defensively the Waggoner girls lead the team, Kelsey had 13 digs and Linsey had 11 digs.
The JV Raiders lost a tough match in two sets to the Warriors. The Raiders lost the first set 22-25 and the second set 17-25.
The Freshmen Raiders battled back and forth against Covenant Christian, especially in set two, but ultimately came up just a little bit short in the match losing 0-2 (17-25, 22-25). Once again the Raiders looked great from the service line as Makenna Drake, Mya Saloane, Aylin Molina and Stella Campbell did not miss any serves. Campbell had 2 aces and Molina had 1 ace. Campbell ran the offense and connected with Molina and Daveigh Small for 3 kills each and Taryn Andrews for 1 kill. On the defensive side of ball, Small collected 9 digs, Drake and Molina had 5 digs a piece, Campbell added 4 digs and Lauren Yelich and Saloane has 2 digs each.
Tonight is Senior Night and the last home volleyball match of the season. All three teams play with the freshmen team taking the court at 5 p.m.
