The Cardinal Ritter Varsity Volleyball team ended their season on Saturday as they competed in the IHSAA Sectionals at Speedway High School. They were awarded the first round bye and played Indian Creek in the morning. If they were to win, they would advance to the Sectional Final against the winner of game 4.
The Lady Raiders jumped out early against ICHS and won the first set 25-18. Cardinal Ritter was down for much of the second set before eventually pulling ahead and winning 25-20. The Braves took set three 16-25. However the Raiders would eventually pull ahead and win the match in the fourth set 25-13.
The win in the semi finals over Indian Creek put the Raiders in the championship match against the Speedway Spark-Plugs. The Raiders jumped out early and won the first set 25-22, but would go on to lose the next three sets 20-25, 26-28, and 21-25. The emotional game saw The Plugs defeat the Raiders in four sets to win the sectional championship.
In sectional play Morgan Schabel and Kelsey “Wild Card” Waggoner led the Raiders with 17 kills each while Audrey Odier added 13 kills. Megan Van Gheem and Alexis Priesthoff ran the offense with 36 and 34 assists respectively. Kelsey and Linsey “Say Hey” Waggoner led the Raiders defensively with 26 digs while Amy Price “Is Right” had 25 digs.
The Lady Raiders had an amazing season. Coach Triplet and her crew inspired the team to be at their absolute best no matter what and taught them skills that will be with them for the rest of their lives. Through the ups and downs, the senior leadership showed through time and time again. The team stuck together through thick and thin, and again, the seniors were a major part of the way the Lady Raiders handled themselves which was with a positive attitude no matter what occurred. This group of seniors will be missed as they have been a major part of showing all of the Cardinal Ritter student body, fans and parents what it means to be a Raider!!!
Great job Lady Raiders!!!
