On Friday night, the Raiders Football Team geared up for what they knew would be a tough game against the Danville Warriors in competing for a sectional title. Cardinal Ritter received the ball and then marched it down the field to the 15 yard line where Ben Valle kicked a field goal to put the Raiders up 3-0 with 9 minutes to go in the first quarter.

Things were looking hopeful until the Warriors scored on their possession making the score 7-3. Cardinal Ritter got the ball back and unfortunately turned it over to the Warriors which took advantage of and scored again.

The score was now 13-3 and after another CRHS turnover, Danville pushed the ball down the field and converted a 4th and short.  The Warriors had the ball close to the end zone, but with some phenomenal Raider defense, the warriors are unable to score and Cardinal Ritter received the ball with 10 minutes left to go in the first half.

The Raiders were unable to score and gave the ball back to Danville with 9 minutes to go in the first half.   After some back and forth, the score remained 13-3 going into the half.

Danville started the 3rd quarter with the ball and the momentum to score. But at fourth and short, Antwann Dix made a huge sack on Danville’s quarterback to get the ball back for the Raiders at the 22 yard line.

The possessions went back and forth again when after a couple of costly penalties on offense, the Raiders were forced to punt the ball from deep in their own territory.  The snap went over punter Brayden Pagel’s head, into the endzone, looking detrimental for the raiders. However, Pagel managed to somehow recover the ball and kick it past the 50 yard line where it was received by the Warriors.

Danville ended up scoring once again, running the score up to 20-3. The Raiders found a way to answer back with a touchdown, and after the Valle kick, it was a 10 point game.

CRHS attemped an onside kick to which Danville scored once again bringing the score to 27-10 late in the 4th and looked like the “Pirates of the Pigskin” were doomed. Amazingly, on the kick-off, Aiden Robinson took a pitch from Austin Sultzer and ran it down the field to score to put the game at 27-17. Unfortunately, Danville scored once more in the final minutes of the game making the final score 34-17.

The Raider defense fought hard against some serious adversity throughout the game and were led by Gavin Crooke who had a staggering 15 tackles for the game.  Helping the cause was senior linebacker (and October Athlete of the Month) Parker “Master P” Mead with 9 tackles.  KJ Majors had a phenomenal game with 7 tackles followed by Timmy Godsil with 6, Austin Sultzer with 6 (1 for a loss), Aaron “A-Rock” Roberts with 4 and Justin “Baller” Browder, Jordan Johnson, Dix, and James Highsaw with 3 a piece.

The offense was led by Jack “Rabbit” Henninger who fought the cold and was able to slip the rock through small windows during the course of the game finishing with 174 yards in the air.  Leading the receivers was Browder with 51 yards on 5 catches.  Godsil was efficient catching 2 balls for 47 yards followed by Crooke with 2 catches for 22 yards, Pagel with a catch for 30 yards and Robinson hauling in 1 ball for 24 yards.  Crooke also added a rushing touchdown to help the cause.

Cardinal Ritter would like to thank the seniors for all the hard work and dedication they put into this team and this season.

Good season boys!
