The Cardinal Ritter Boys Basketball Team had their season home opener against Indianapolis Metropolitan on Friday and the building the students have dubbed “the Red Sea” was packed and loud. The band was playing, the student section (the Pirate Ship) was rocking and the Raiders came out fired up and ready to put on a show for the hyped up crowd. When people ask what Indiana High School Basketball is like, seeing Friday’s atmosphere was a great answer.
The Raiders came out firing on all cylinders hitting shots from all over the floor while being patient on the offensive side of the ball. On defense, Cardinal Ritter closed passing lanes and crashed the glass hard with 3 players getting into double digits in that category. The Raiders came out with a commanding 14-2 lead and only gave Indy Met a couple of chances to come back in their 70-59 victory.
Leading the way for the Raiders was senior Damon “Old Oak” Ogletree who had arguably the best game of his high school career. Ogletree was unstoppable as he lit up the scoreboard to the tune of 30 points, 22 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 steals. Junior Aiden Cannon and sophomore Jordan Turner both also had double-doubles with Cannon getting 12 and 11 rebounds and Turner with 12 points and 13 boards.
The JV Team also pulled out a victory before the varsity game in an exciting beginning to the night. The Raiders won 44-43 with Greg Meriweather providing the go ahead bucket with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Pumas were unable the get a shot off for a chance to win.
