The Cardinal Ritter Girls Basketball Team traveled to Beech Grove on Thursday to take on the Lady Hornets. Both the JV and Varsity teams were back in action for the first time this year. The JV team had the first game and started off the night right.
Not having played a game in 12 days, the squad figured to be a bit out of synch. But they showed no signs of rust as they opened the game with stifling defense and effective offense, leading 11-0 at the end of the first quarter. The team stayed poised and ready as the continued to perform well, closing out the Hornets 39-16.
Maddie Sandifer lead all scores with 12 while Lauren “Steamin'” Beaman dominated the boards and added 7. They now boast a 10-4 record.
After the JV Team was victorious, the varsity team shared the basketball and took an early lead they would never relinquish. The win was a total team effort with balance scoring and everyone playing minutes.
The Raiders were led in scoring by Kelsey “Wild Card” Waggoner with 14 points followed by Gabby “Heat Check” Hicks with 12 and Emma “Lights Out” Litzelman with 10. Final score was 63-31.
The victory puts the Lady Raiders at 6-1 in Indiana Crossroads Conference play, good for 2nd place and ups their overall record to 10-5.
Next up the Lady Raiders travel to Brebeuf Saturday for a noon and 1:30 pm tip off.
