The Raiders played their hearts out Thursday and Coach Baker and Coach Rubey are so proud of how they stepped up and worked together for their first of 3 matches in the Speedway Invite at Riverside. Mark Baker made quick work at #1 singles winning 6-0 6-0 to log his 51st win. Congrats to the senior #1. Aron Gebremskel has worked so hard to improve but his body continues to be his biggest opponent as he tweaked his knee during a tightly contested, scrappy opponent. Out of abundance of caution he retired midway in the first set to have his knee examined by the trainer. Nothing too serious thankfully so he will hopefully be back in action Saturday. Sophomore standout Nathan Martin was moved to 3 singles since the team can only play 5 this weekend and he fought hard and really played well. The team has some work to do but the future looks bright for this Raider. He lost 3-6 3-6. In doubles action, the team found a duo that works well in their lefty sophomore Luke Cairns and their freshman Alex Rios. Luke is finding his way to the net and having more success there as Alex helps from the baseline. They fell short but played really well and continue to improve, losing 4-6 3-6.
In JV action, Simeon Pontones got some much needed singles work in playing 2 different players at number 1 JV singles. He lost 3-6 and 4-6 on the day but again is getting stronger and more consistent every match. Simeon is out for the weekend so we will see him back in action next week.
The team travels to Speedway for their match Saturday. Best of luck Raiders!!
